LDA ANNOUNCES CHANGES FOR 2010 RE/MAX WORLD LONG DRIVE CHAMPIONSHIP
Competitive Divisions Added, Restructured
ROANOKE, TEXAS (Dec. 18, 2009) – Long Drivers of America (LDA) today announced structural changes for the 2010 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship powered by Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Local and regional U.S. qualifying events for the premier event in power golf will be conducted in 2010 in two divisions: Open and Senior (45+).
Entry fees for U.S. local qualifying events will remain $40 per try, with multiple entries permitted. Entry fees at the U.S. regional final tournaments, with a modified double-elimination format, will remain $75 for LDA members and $150 for nonmembers.
A total of 144 Open Division competitors and 72 Senior Division competitors will be in action at the 2010 RE/MAX world finals, tentatively scheduled for October 26 to November 6 in scenic Mesquite, Nevada.
Additionally, in a major restructuring, LDA announced that the 2010 RE/MAX world finals will feature competition in the following five divisions:
Super Seniors (50+)
Grand Champions (55+)
Legends (60+)
Masters (65+)
Ladies (All ages)
Competitors in those five divisions will forgo local and regional qualifying rounds. They will pay an entry fee of $800 (payable at the time of registration) to compete in the 2010 finals at Mesquite Sports and Event Complex.
“We’ve tightened age groups, expanded divisions and brought back the ladies,” noted Art Sellinger, LDA’s chief executive officer. “We think these changes will appeal to some of our most dedicated and competitive long drivers. It’s going to be exciting to see them in action again.”
A breakdown of the 2010 championship purse will be announced in the spring.
